Since its establishment, the Chinese Academy of Forestry has established all-round, multi-level, and multi-field international cooperation and exchanges with over 80 countries and more than 60 international organizations, and signed over 100 academic cooperation agreements with forestry research institutions, universities, and multinational enterprises in about 30 countries, as well as international organizations such as the International Tropical Timber Organization and the Center for International Forestry Research, paving a good foundation for joint research and development, collaborative training, talent exchange, data sharing, and collectively building platforms. A few figures include:
- 12 experts have been elected as academicians of the International Academy of Wood Sciences.
- Nearly 200 experts have held positions in international organizations.
- Over 700 international scientific and technological cooperation projects have been implemented, with a total fund of about USD70 million.
- Two international experts, Victor Squires from Australia and Chung-Yun Hse from the U.S., as recommended by the Chinese Academy of Forestry won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of China respectively in 2008 and 2014.
- 16 international experts, as recommended by the Chinese Academy of Forestry, won the Chinese Government Friendship Award, for example Michael Wingfield from South Africa in 2017, Heinrich Speicker from Germany in 2021 and Colin Maxwell Finlayson from Australia in 2022.
- 87 foreign dignitaries, international organizations officials and internationally renowned experts have been awarded Honorary Doctor of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, for example Tarja Halonen, former Finnish President in 2002 and Marina Silva, former Brazilian Minister of Environment in 2005.
