CAF-UT Research Center for Biomass Science and Engineering

In November 2017, the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) and the University of Tennessee (UT) Institute of Agriculture signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish the CAF-UT Center for Biomass Science and Engineering.

The main research fields of the CAF-UT Center for Biomass Science and Engineering include biomass separation technology, bio-based functional materials, biomass chemical conversion, wood-based advanced materials, integrated biomass production and global economic impact. The platform was established to further enhance the research and innovation cooperation between CAF and UT in the fields of biological science and engineering, through substantive actions such as conducting collaborative research, jointly organizing academic seminars and promoting talent exchanges.

The member organizations from Chinese side include several Institutes ofthe Chinese Academy of Forestry, including the Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products, Institute of Wood Industry, State Key Laboratory of Forest Genetics and Breeding, and Research Institute of Forestry Policy and Information. More scientific research institutions from China and the United States will be invited to expand the cooperation network and jointly build a comprehensive Sino-US research center.
