In 2002, the Research Institute of Resource Insects of Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) and the University of Alberta in Canada jointly established the China-Canada Joint Laboratory for Ecosystem Management, which aims to carry out activities focusing on ecological restoration, poverty alleviation, and international scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges in Yunnan province. It aims to establish a platform for scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges between Yunnan Province and Canada, deepen the international community's understanding of Yunnan's important role in regional sustainable development, expand access to financial assistance (for international ecological construction and regional economic development), introduce advanced technology, enhance research capacity, and cultivate high-quality talents.
